Jennifer’s Story

I am a nurse, doula, educator, birth photographer, and mother. When I started my own business in 2011, I realized I had the freedom to fuse together my passions around childbirth and Birth Fusion was born.

To date, I have attended over 250 births as a doula and hundreds more as a nurse. I have taught a few hundred childbirth classes and have taken thousands of photos as a birth photographer. I have witnessed births at most facilities in the Greater Sacramento Region, and have traveled to almost every town in our region to help families labor at home. In 2020, I expanded my region to provide labor support services in the Bay Area as well.

As a doula, I have faith in the human spirit and believe that every birthing person has the innate ability to give birth in their own, unique way. As a nurse, I believe that medicine has its place, and it’s my job to educate and mentor families in finding their own path.

Childbirth is made up of thousands of seconds of beauty while the human spirit fights the hardest battle it will ever face.
Photography can tell the story in a way that no words can.

Labor at home and hospital

There are so many quiet, intimate moments during a typical birth. Birthing people leaning on their parents for support. Partners providing that physical support, or merely just a hand to hold. Birthing people move around the room, the home, the backyard with exhaustion, but a sparkle in their eye that they are doing something amazing. Nurses providing information, support, and reassurance that everyone is safe.

Birth itself

This is the end-game, isn’t it? A birth partner is not in the place to capture those first moments of their child's (or grandchild’s or sister’s or best friend’s) birth. They are busy taking it all in, eyes wide open in awe, or maybe hiding “north of the equator”. Someone else holding the camera allows those precious moments to remain firmly implanted in your memory forever. We capture the first solid food, the first steps, why not the first breath?

The Golden Hour and breastfeeding

So much happens immediately after your baby is born. You’re counting fingers and toes. You’re deciding who’s eyes they. You watch your new baby as their heads bob up and down on your chest, trying to find the breast like they instinctively know how to do. You can never get this hour, day, or week back again. Photographs will help you remember the joy of this day.

Birth Photography services are available on a limited basis. I do not provide this service unless your hospital allows for my presence at your birth. Note that I do not provide photography services without also being your doula. Doula care comes first. Photography is just a bonus.
